In this volume , the fifth to be published, a total of 141 species are dealt with, including a number of difficult genera such as Crocallis, Aspitates and Dyscia. The identification of species can now be done much more easily, thanks to the not less then 709 specimens illustrated in the 16 colour plates. For each species the following informatios is provided: taxonomic data, description, distribution, phenology, biology including food plants, habitat, differential features from similar species, greyscale photographs of the male genitalia, including the everted vesica, greyscale photographs of the female genitalia, and a distribtion map for Europe and adjacent countries with dots for verified specimens. Genetic data from DNA barcoding is provided for the majority of species. Numerous text-figures illustrate and explain diagnostic characters and other morphological structures. The taxonomic part includes new synonymies, status revisions, new combinations and numerous new distribution data. A systematic catalogue of the European species and the adjacent regions of North Africa, Macaronesia, Turkey and the Middle East is also included.
