Contains colour photographs of all 26 species of Parnassius and almost all their taxa described from this region, totally 1088 specimens. The book descirbes type localities, potential distribution and taxonomic status of all taxa, description of species and their distinct subspecies.

Tibet… Shangri-La, the country of snow, the roof of the world. For Western civilization it is a mysterious and mystical country, which is not easily accessible ... This is book about mystical Tibet and most mystical insects. It contains photographs of 1088 out of a total number of more than eleven thousand studied specimens from this region. These include 439 photographs of the type specimens of 217 taxa in total, which is about 62 per cent of all the taxa known in the area of the Sino-Tibetan Plateau. In the book there are also pictures of many other specimens that do not belong to the type series, but come from the type localities or nearby. A large number of illustrations together with the revision of the type localities of all the taxa and the relatively extensive bibliography and detailed gazetteer can hopefully be a suitable tool for those who are interested in the study of these unique butterflies, which was the main aim of this book.

This excellent publication can be recommended for all who study, take photos and collect not only Parnassius or Papilionidae, but all Holarctic butterflies.
