Lepidoptera italica, the long awaited series dedicated to the Italian Lepidoptera and Lepidopterology, starts with a special volume dedicated to faunas of naturalistically important areas.

Main articles in Lepidoptera research in areas with high biodiversity potential in Italy (Vol. 1) cover the Macrolepidoptera of Mt Subasio (Umbria), the Prenestini Mts (Latium) and the massif of Matese (Molise/Campania), with other contributions providing insights into ecology and faunistics of smaller but interesting areas which host rich or specialised Lepidoptera faunas. So for the wood of Lamone, the oak woodland of Manziana, the coastal marsh of Macchiagrande and the northern slope of Mt Cocuzzo.

Data to over 1,100 species are provided and most noteworthy records detailed with respect to their faunistic and ecological relevance or morphological features. 208 specimens are illustrated in colour.

The series aims at representing a printed reference for research into the extraordinarily rich Italian Lepidoptera, covering a wide array of topics such as taxonomy, systematics, evolution, faunistics, biogeography, ecology and also the history of Italian lepidopterology.
